FOCUS ARTWORKS: THE FOREST PROJECT
Part of my current work is an extensive series about trees and forests. I am a self-confessed tree and forest lover (we treasure and tend to many in our own garden) and live in a valley surrounded by mountains covered in forests we are able to disappear for walks in. Nothing on this earth could live without trees and forests, yet they can be overlooked and sadly often are abused, mistreated and threatened. I want to bring trees and forests into our minds, our hearts and even into our homes. To do tis my life-long fascination with trees is being transformed into an on-going project in several media. Join me to explore the strength and character of trees and forests in painting, drawing, ceramic sculpture, and printmaking.
In the Forest Project so far:
Ceramic sculptural work, the fascinating barks and leaves of trees morphing into sculptural vases a tribute to these essential gifts of nature.
Drawings and printmaking where Australian Eucalyptus trees, resistant and valiant, regrow after devastating fires, renewed and twisted they dance an inspiring slow dance of resilience. Or aged and gnarled old trees stand guard over rivers.
Oil paintings which revel in the lush colours and forms of leaves, seeds, flowers and barks, painted from trees I know, and leaves, acorns, flowers gathered and carried lovingly back to the studio to star in the next painting!
